Description
Gömeda Valley, Pancarlık, Kızılcukur
The Cappadocia region of Turkiye is justly renowned for its otherworldly landscape, its fairy chimney hoodoos, craggy ridges and undulating valleys.
It is a joy to discover the area on foot and connect with nature. Your professional guide will lead you through the myriad of hiking paths which weave through the valleys and peaks.
In the south of Cappadocia, the landscapes soften and the rocky peaks give way to plateaux and valleys lined with poplars.
We pick you up from your hotel and start the day by visiting the Gömeda Valley. Our hike takes us to the Pancarlık Valley. From the 18th century, on the highest walls of this valley, the Cappadocians burrowed out countless dovecotes. Today you will see the many excavations that still serve as nesting boxes for pigeons. Visit the cave chapels and churches of Kepez and Sarica: excavated in the 6th century, these churches were decorated with frescoes in the 10th century.
We arrive in the village of Ortahisar where we will have lunch in a local restaurant. Then hike to Kizilçukur Valley (Red Valley) which has an 8 million year old history. Indeed, the two volcanoes of central Anatolia Hasan and Argée spat volcanic ash on Cappadocia forming layers and strata of different and multicolored chemical compositions. Eroded by wind and rain, the valley presents a geological surface that is not seen anywhere else.
After the walk we will take you back to your hotel in Cappadocia.
